Interlibrary Loan FAQ

What Is Interlibrary Loan?

The Interlibrary Loan Service at the University of Indianapolis provides access to books and journal articles which are not available in the Krannert Memorial Library.  Requests can be submitted using the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan System

Who May Use ILL?

ILL borrowing privileges are available to faculty, staff, and students who are currently affiliated with the University of Indianapolis.  All borrowers must have a valid University of Indianapolis email account.  To register for a UINDY email account go to http://accounts.uindy.edu/ or contact the Help Desk at 317-788-6145.

What May Be Borrowed?

Most books and journal articles can be obtained through Interlibrary Loan, but there is no guarantee that other libraries will lend the material.  Audio Visuals are often hard to obtain because many libraries do not lend this type of material.

Interlibrary loan requests cannot be placed for the following kinds of items:

How to Request Materials

Before submitting a request, please check the library online catalog or use the A-Z Journal List to find holdings or full text availability.  After verifying, you may request the item via the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan System. Instructions on how to use ILLiad can be found here.

Each request must contain the complete citation.  Incomplete requests will be returned and will result in delays.

How Long Does It Take?

ILL requests are processed Monday-Friday and there is really no set time for how fast we can obtain materials. It could take anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks depending on how fast the other libraries respond to our request and in what method they send the request. We will try our hardest to get the material to you in the fastest possible way. Please take all this in consideration when you place your requests.

How to Pick Up Requested Materials

When the requests are received by the library, the requester is notified by email or phone. Books can be picked up at the circulation desk and articles will be delivered electronically to your ILLiad account.  Failure to pick up requested material within one week can result in a fine of $5.00 per item.

Books received through ILL must be returned at the Circulation Desk by the date indicated on the yellow banner.  The loan period is determined by the lending library.

Renewals

Renewals are determined by the lending library. Renewal requests can only be made one time. Please place your renewal requests through the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan System and please place the requests at least four days in advance of the book due date. Detailed instructions on using ILLiad and renewing requests can be found here.

Overdues

ILL books must be returned to the Circulation Desk by the date marked on the yellow band.  Turning in ILL materials late can jeopardize the Univerisity's relationship with the libraries at other institutions.  The overdue fine for ILL is $1.00 per day, with no limit plus any overdue fines or replacement costs levied by the lending library will be passes onto the borrower.
