Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery for Distance Learning Students

What Is Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery

The Interlibrary Loan Service at the University of Indianapolis provides access to journal articles which are not available in the Krannert Memorial Library. Document Delivery service will provide electronic copies of articles and book chapters owned by the library. Requests can be submitted using the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan System. Instructions on how to use ILLiad can be found here.

Who May Use Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan borrowing privileges are available to faculty, staff, and students who are currently affiliated with the University of Indianapolis. All borrowers must have a valid University of Indianapolis email account. To register for a UINDY email account go to http://accounts.uindy.edu/ or contact the Help Desk at 317-788-6145.

Who May Use Document Delivery

Students must live outside of the nine county Indianapolis/Marion County Metropolitan area (Marion, Boone, Hamilton, Madison, Hendricks, Hancock, Morgan, Johnson, and Shelby).
Students must be currently enrolled in programs that offer distance learning classes or participating in a clinical or internship. Students must register their ILLiad account as "Distance Ed Grad".

All students' qualifications will be checked before requests are processed. If you have questions about your eligibility for Document Delivery send an email to kwenning@uindy.edu or contact the Interlibrary Loan staff at (317) 788-3402.

What Can and Cannot Be Requested by Distance Learning Students

Students can request:

Copies of articles from journals, proceedings, standards, etc.
One single chapter from a book

Students cannot request:

Entire copies of books
Audio/Visual materials
Entire issues of journals, proceedings, standards, etc.
Materials that have been put on reserve by the class instructor.
Copies of materials that the library subscribes to electronically.

How to Request Materials

Before submitting a request, please check the A-Z Journal List to find full text availability. After verifying that full text is unavailable, you may request the item via the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan System (Instructions on how to use ILLiad can be found here). Library Staff will determine if the request is Interlibrary Loan or Document Delivery.

Each request must contain the complete citation. Incomplete requests will be returned and will result in delays.

How Long Does It Take

Interlibrary Loan requests are processed Monday-Friday and there is really no set time for how fast we can obtain materials. It could take anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks depending on how fast the other libraries respond to our request and in what method they send the request.

Document Delivery requests are processed Monday-Friday after all Interlibrary Loan requests are placed. We will try to get your requests to you within 2-3 days.

We will try our hardest to get the material to you in the fastest possible way, but please take the above information into consideration when you place your requests.

How Will Materials be Delivered

Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery materials will be delivered electronically to your ILLiad account. For each item you order you will receive an email telling you that the material is available and how to retrieve the material.
