Databases can help you find journal articles and other information relating to a topic. Each year, thousands of articles are published in scholarly and professional journals, popular magazines, and newspapers. Most of these resources are available only by subscription, and are not available "free" on the Internet. The library's databases give you access a large cross-section of these subscription-based articles. Along with articles, some databases include additional material such as streaming media and topic overviews.
